Favorite Face Of The Day: Mayer Marx by Manuel A. Martinez III

The Model: Mayer Marx
21 year old Mayer Marx from San Francisco has an incredibly beautiful face. I am sure Mayer has been told from an early age that with that face, with that chin, that he belongs in front of the camera, and that is exactly where he has ended up. Mayer only began modeling a short time ago but was quickly signed and is going to be working in L.A for most of July. Mayer (love his name) has a look which is both contemporary and retro. In some of his shots he looks like some of the shots I have seen of models from the 70's and 80's. Certainly a face to keep your eye on!

The Photographer: Manuel A. Martinez III
I have posted the work of Manuel A. Martinez III (sgriob)once before about a year an a half ago when I profiled model Steven Brooks. At that time I called sgriob's work 'simple, classic and beautiful.' When viewing Mayer Marx's portfolio, it is obvious that Manuel's shots of Mayer had something special about them.

When I was viewing Manuel's online portfolio I truly felt like I was viewing shots from a museum rather than that of a photographer of fine art. Although Manuel says that he cannot quite define his style, I might have to give it a shot. Defining the style of another is never a wise move, but I can say with confidence that the one word that came to mind was artistic.

Manuel's use of simple props and furniture (many of which can be seen in many of his shoots) he creates a shot which does not just focus on the subject, but the subject within the context of their environment. The models in Manuel's work must often respond not just to his skilled lens but as well to the musical instrument they are holding, the glove on their hand, the vase by their side, the dish in front of them. By doing so, Manuel has added an additional layer to his shots which certainly causes his work stand apart, to stand out. Manuel's models do not just sit beside or on a chair, they are photographed with it.
