Entirely For Fun: Jacob Authier by YogaBear Studio

26 year old Jacob Authier describes himself as 'a bohemian gentleman with gypsy tendencies'. Bohemians are often described using terms such as artistic, unorthodox, wanderers, adventurers and of course associated with free love. Bohemians are also elemental (fundamental or essential, inborn). Elemental is also a core theme of the work of David Gray from YogaBear Studio. David's first book focused on this theme and was titled Elementals: Celebrating the elemental spirit of man.

For David Gray, elemental simply means natural. Men who are not overly primped and chiseled, hair is a must both on the body and the face. What was fascinating to me in going through David's impressive portfolio is how different each man looks when shooting them as they naturally appear. Sometimes models today are so manscaped, with identical hair lengths and cuts they often look so similar with the special qualities that make them unique photoshopped away. When selecting models and artists to feature on FH I try to look for things unique and different. It is for this reason I am happy to feature David's work. There are men on David's site I normally would not think of as attractive who become, though his lens, beautiful and intensely sexy.

'I found Jacob Authier on Model Mayhem--he had some very dynamic photos on his profile. We met at San Onofre beach for the shoot, back when it was still a nude beach, and spent an hour or two taking photos. It was a great collaboration--he had some great ideas about poses, and the beach, of course, is an amazing location to show him off.'

David says he takes photos entirely for fun, and enjoys working with all sorts of men.

'Most of my work is classic portrait and physique photography, but I'm also working on several special projects, including a series of naked yoga images and an series exploring masculine stereotypes.'

Thank You For Being A Friend: Ali by Dylan Rosser

I am happy photographer Dylan Rosser broke his rule against shooting guys that he is friends with. Hi friend Ali managed to persuade him to change his mind.

'Somehow I find it really uncomfortable to shoot nudes with friends. It is far easier to tell a model I have never met before to get naked. It is just part of the job, but when it is someone you know, it can be awkward for both model and photographer. Having said that, we managed to laugh through it and come up with some great shots, and in a cool location as well.'

The location is beautiful, as are these shots, see full set on Dylan's site THE MALE FORM HERE:

Jake Buczynski by John M Clum

John M Clum
'Photography through the eyes of a painter'

The first time I featured the work of John M Clum (An Ealaíontóir: Brock Chapman by John M. Clum), I contrasted his work with model Brock Chapman with Clum's seawall series of paintings. I was struck by how similar the feel was in all of his work, regardless of the medium. With both his paintings and his photography John's work has a added layer, a depth.

'I capture images of men that will span body structure and physical manifestations of form, frailty, variation, infirmity, strength, power, beauty, arousal and the exotic or any combination thereof.'

One of John's latest shoots was with 23 year old Pennsylvania model Jake Buczynski. Jake is just getting started with modelling but with the depth John brings to his shots Jake looks far from a beginner. Jake says he is not afraid to after what he wants, and success with modelling is currently at the top of his list.

'I'm a very out going, lively, entertaining person. I enjoy working out and staying active. In my free time I enjoy baseball, volleyball, hiking, cliff jumping, and in the winter I love to snowboard. Recently I've been dedicating my free time to becoming a model. It's alot harder than I thought but i'm working hard and getting into the best shape of my life and I am not gonna stop until I succeed in this profession.'
Jake Buczynski

John thinks with the right opportunities Jake is headed for success. He found him on Model Mayhem while looking for models in his area that were trying to get a start.

'I could see his potential right away with his impressive physique. He was only about 30 miles from me so I contacted him and offered to shoot him. He answered yes and these photos are the result. He was excellent to work with!'

Cast In Bronze: The Artistry Of Bruce Denny

'I love to capture the beauty of the human form. Creating an expressive image that shows a model off to their best is really rewarding.'
Bruce Denny

On his website, artist Bruce Denny shares that he spent his youth making things out of anything he could lay his hands on. He was fascinated by both the way things worked and their form and structure. His school years exacerbated the struggle between art and science. Science won...but the it was not a complete victory. The struggle, one of combining passion with expression continued through many jobs and many mediums. He eventually found himself working in the theatre, back to the arts! Bruce says it was during these struggles, during the searching, that he found sculpture, something that brings binds many of his loves together.

'Sculpture requires a methodical approach and good spatial awareness, traits usually exhibited by a good scientist. At the same time the original ideas and concepts and the final piece of work require artistic creativity. I have found a medium in which I can express my ideas and desires utilising all my skills and experiences.'

I love the two shots of Bruce above by Ivars Krutainis.

I enjoyed my time with Bruce's extensive breadth of work, photography, both human and wildlife, sculpture and his own modelling. You can see how he has embraced each of the concepts that sparked his interest while on his journey. Anatomy, biology, chemistry, and the complexities of human physiology are all merged together within his work through his creativity.

In putting together a profile to showcase Bruce's work it was impossible to showcase one medium without the other. It is clear the classical feel in his sculpture weaves throughout his photography as well. Below are two of my favorite examples of Bruce's photography and sculpture.

Dev by Bruce Denny P

23 years old Dev is comfortable in front of the camera and likes to work with artists who can bring out something new and special. Dev's muscular body lends itself to Bruce's vision beautifully and the resulting images and classic poses are incredibly beautiful and incredibly hot. Bruce says that Dev was open minded and an absolute pleasure to work with.

'When he requested a shoot with me, I looked at his portfolio and saw a wide variety of images with very different photographers, so my first challenge was to find a new angle. I decided on a sporty theme, taking him from a training session in the park to a locker room situation. When he arrived I was pleasantly surprised to find that his body was in much better shape than many of his pictures showed, so I decided to focus on using light and poses to display his strengths. The resulting images speak for themselves, and I think we were both very pleased with the outcome.'

Ripped:
Sculpting Dean Monroe

'My sculptures, whilst quite contemporary in their style have a classical feeling about them. The nude human form provides a timeless quality and working closely with my models allows me to achieve a very natural, lifelike energy in my work.'

'I've always used photography as a means to an end with my sculpture. I photograph my models, then use the images to produce my pieces. This allows me to set more dynamic poses that the models would not be able to hold for any length of time. Then of course the finished sculptures need to be photographed for marketing purposes. So I have a studio and the photographic equipment already. The economic recession has left me with a little more free time, so I decided to fill it by photographing models for there portfolios. This affords me an additional creative outlet, gives me access to models that I can potentially use for my sculpture and has the potential to offer me an additional revenue stream if my work proves popular.'

'I'm always looking out for guys and girls with good faces and great physiques for my sculpture. I saw some pictures of Dean Monroe on a modelling website and thought he would be ideal for my latest piece entitled "ripped". This is the first piece in a new collection of work that takes a rather more startling look at the way we perceive the "body beautiful" and the lengths we will go to to achieve it. When I discussed the concept with Dean, he got it right away and was delighted to participate. He is very experienced as a model which makes my job as an artist so much easier. Working with Dean was an absolute delight, and if I get the opportunity, I would definitely use him again.'

Many of you may already know of Dean Monroe, but if you don't be sure to check out his amazing blog. Besides filling it with tons of photos, Dean shares his experiences traveling the globe, modelling and working in the porn industry. Dean also writes a wonderful account of his time working with Bruce. Check out Dean's blog HERE:

Solitary Man: Kane O'Farrell by Pierre-Yves Monnerville

'No matter how close I am to people or love them, I sometimes find it quite hard to connect with them. I see some friends I really adore in so much pain that I’d like to take some of it from them.'

'Of course we all know how it works. Or, do we?

When I’m myself in pain, whether emotionally or physically, the people close to me try really hard to help but it’s always pointless to me. It’s good for my morale to know that there are people around caring about me but at the end of the day, that doesn't take the pain or worry away.'

Loneliness
by Pierre-Yves Monnerville

One of my favorite parts of artist Pierre-Yves Monnerville's website is a section titled diaries. With FH one of the things I strive to do is tell stories along with the work I showcase. The poem above, 'Loneliness' did not originally go with these incredible shots of Kane O'Farrell, but it was my favorite diary, and also fits with the Solitary feel I get from Pierre's work.

When I say Solitary I don't mean alone. Dating, relationships and sex are all apart of Pierre's work and his stories. Ultimately though, solitary means independence, inner strength and self reliance which are all a part of the power in the images. Pierre photographs strong, sexy, reflective solitary men.

Pierre-Yves is from the French island of Martinique and now lives and works in Brighton England. His images, as well as his words, are an exploration of intimacy. Robert Mapplethorpe's 1988's Black Book, was a main inspiration for entering the world of photography. Pierre has showcased his work in several books including Diaries (which features Loneliness). You can find out more about his work, his books, and view more of his photography at his official site HERE:

I am hit and miss on tattoo's. Sometimes I feel they take away from a model and a body. Sometimes, they add something unique and highly sensual. With Kane O'Farrell it is most certainly the latter. Kane's tattoo's are not so much on him, but more a part of him. Pierre's shots of Kane were some of my favorite in his portfolio, and I especially loved the shots of Kane on the floor (seen below).

'The inspiration for the photos with Kane was old physique magazines of the 70s. I'm a big fan of Colt magazine and we started from some of the very first drawings of Rip Colt. I also like including light elements in my photos so I hired this LED seat usually used in clubs to see what we could do with it.'
